As previously discussed, while a monthly donation of only $1 may not in actuality help towards the greater good, a monthly donation of at least $5 almost definitely will. You could be donating a total of $60 per year to 12 different charities and STILL making a positive return on your money. I urge you to consider this option. You sometimes truly have no idea how good you will feel about yourself until you are actually doing something positive to help people.
On your $25,000, you can still end up with an approximate annual return of 1.12% on your money while helping a total of 12 different causes over the year. Let's check the math quickly:
$25,000 X 4% Rewards Checking Interest rate = $1,000 per year
$5 per month to 12 charities = $720
$1,000 - $720 = $280
$280 divided by your $25,000 = 1.12% annual return
All this good you can do and would come at no additional expense to you if you just switch from your low paying bank account to a Rewards Checking Account. So if you can't get motivated enough to do this for yourself, DO IT FOR THE KIDS MAN! :)
Charity Navigator does a very nice job of listing and rating various charities. You can link directly to a charity's website from there to set up your donation.

April 2011 Update: We have just begun exploring the idea of setting up a payment system thru our website which would make it possible for users to focus all of their charitable contributions towards one charitable organization instead of spreading it out over 12 separate organizations. The obvious benefits would be twofold:
1. This would allow users to give a LOT more money ($720 per year) in support of one specific cause they truly care about instead of spreading that amount out over 12 different causes.
2. This would give users access to one stop shopping where they would be able to very quickly set up the process in one place instead of hunting around on 12 different websites to figure out how to donate.
If this sounds like something you'd like to hear more about, please indicate your level of interest on the form below. Your feedback will help us determine how quickly to build out this portion of our site.
